July Wrap Up

I’ve read 10 books in July, with a total of 3.748 pages. My average rating was 4.2 stars, which is again surprisingly high. Here’s what I read in July:

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager – 4 stars. Really good! Super intriguing. I was very surprised by the direction this one took, didn’t see ANY of it coming. Some of the conclusions of the MC felt a little forced but I still enjoyed it very much.

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert – 5 stars. Zav and Dani are amazing characters! I was hooked by their banter and their romance was sooooo steamy and sweet. Loved it!

The Whisper Man by Alex North – 5 stars. This was very, very creepy and spooky, with some interesting elements, flawed characters and I couldn’t put it down. Read it in one sitting! Really enjoyed the writing, I definitely need to read more Alex North’s books (just not at night! 😅).

Never Have I Ever by Joshilyn Jackson – 2 stars. Just okay. I didn’t enjoy it much, I was bored through most of it and disliked the twist at the end. Not for me.

Ghost Squad by Claribel A. Ortega – 4 stars. The most adorable story about ghosts, family and witches. So sweet! Really enjoyed the audiobook.

The Institute by Stephen King – 4 stars. During the first 10-15% of this book, I was thinking that this would be a Stephen King miss for me, but then I really started to get into the story. This felt like a 80’s Stephen King and I really enjoyed it. There were some details that made me feel like the story dragged a little, but I definitely recommend this book.

Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert – 5 stars. This was the perfect ending to the Brown’s Sisters trilogy. I loved Eve and Jacob, they were amazing together. There were a lot of hilarious scenes and some very steamy moments. The representation in this trilogy was great and I’m sad this was the last book in it. Talia Hibbert’s writing is amazing and she’s now one of my auto-buy authors.

Recursion by Blake Crouch – 5 stars. Recursion is brilliant! I was enthralled, couldn’t stop listening to it and several hours after finishing the audiobook I was still thinking about it. The plot was unique, complex and creative. SO INTENSE! It was amazing! Mind-blowing. Definitely, my top favorite SciFi book I read in 2021. I’ll definitely read more Blake Crouch’s books.

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare – 4 stars. It would have been a 5 star if we had gotten more in Faerie and more of Gwyn and Diana. I still really enjoyed this, I read the last half in one day. The Blackthorn family has my heart! WHAT. THE. HELL. WAS. THAT. ENDING.

The Test by Sylvain Neuvel – 4 stars. This was wild, wild, wild. I listened to it in one sitting and I can’t stop thinking about it. Really good. I think this story will stay with me for a while.

Can’t believe I finally have my wrap ups posts up-to-date. Well, September is only 3 days away so I hope I can keep up with it. I strayed from my July TBR, didn’t read 3 books in it… Oh, well… I read 2 books in my “wiggle room” possibility books and fortunately I was able to complete all of Summerween’s challenges. So, yay!

I haven’t been around this past week, I took off for a few days to rest. The most I did was swim in the pool, drink cocktails and sleep! I didn’t even read much, which means I royally messed up my August TBR. I think I needed to turn off my brain for a while. I have been feeling really tired for the past few months, haven’t been sleeping very well and the break was definitely a necessity. Hopefully, things will get better. 🤞

Have you read any of these books? Share your thoughts with me in the comments.

  1. You’ve read SO many amazing books in July!!! 👏🏻✨ I’m so glad to see you enjoyed all of them, adding Get a Life Chloe Brown to me TBR, romance isn’t usually my genre but I’ve had good luck lately with the ones I’ve picked up, and plus, I’ve heard amazing things about that book series, so I’ll give it a shot 🥰

    1. I don’t think I’ll be reading more of Jackson’s thrillers, at least not while I still remember my journey with this one. It didn’t really work for me and the ending made it worse. The writing was ok, it doesn’t surprise me that her women’s fiction is good. 🙂

  2. Looks like you had some great reads in July. There are so many of these that I want to read so it’s great to hear you enjoyed them! Sometimes we all need a break from everything (even reading) and swimming, drinking cocktails and sleeping sounds a pretty great combo to me 😆 I hope the break helps you feel more recharged now.

  4. You tackled a lot of my TBR! LOL! I’m currently reading Act Your Age, Eve Brown. I’m reading the series out of order. So far it hasn’t been an issue that I haven’t read the previous books, but if it turns out to be a problem then I’ll hold off. I just happened to get my hands on it first. I have been wanting to read a Riley Sager book for quite a while now. I’m hoping to pick up Home Before Dark soon.
