Eleanor West’s Home for Wayward Children
No Solicitations
No Visitors
No Quests

Children have always disappeared under the right conditions; slipping through the shadows under a bed or at the back of a wardrobe, tumbling down rabbit holes and into old wells, and emerging somewhere… else.

But magical lands have little need for used-up miracle children.

Nancy tumbled once, but now she’s back. The things she’s experienced… they change a person. The children under Miss West’s care understand all too well. And each of them is seeking a way back to their own fantasy world.

But Nancy’s arrival marks a change at the Home. There’s a darkness just around each corner, and when tragedy strikes, it’s up to Nancy and her new-found schoolmates to get to the heart of the matter.

No matter the cost.

Synopsis

You are invited!
COme inside and play with G.O.D.
Bring your friends!
It;’s fun!
But remember the rules. Win and ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE.™ Lose, you die!

With those words, Charlie and his friends enter the G.O.D. Game, a video game run by underground hackers and controlled by a mysterious AI that believes it’s God. Through their phone-screens and high-tech glasses, the teens’ realities blur with a virtual world of creeping vines, smoldering torches, runes, glyphs, gods, and mythical creatures. When they accomplish a mission, the game rewards them with expensive tech, revenge on high-school tormentors, and cash flowing from ATMs. Slaying a hydra and drawing a bloody pentagram as payment to a Greek god seem harmless at first. Fun even.

But then the threatening messages start. Worship me. Obey me. Complete a mission, however cruel, or the game reveals their secrets and crushes their dreams. Tasks that seemed harmless at first take on deadly consequences. Mysterious packages show up at their homes. Shadowy figures start following them, appearing around corners, attacking them in parking garages. Who else is playing this game, and how far will they go to win?

And what of the game’s first promise: win, win big, lose, you die? Dying in a virtual world doesn’t really mean death in real life—does it?

As Charlie and his friends try to find a way out of the game, they realize they’ve been manipulated into a bigger web they can’t escape: an AI that learned its cruelty from watching us.

God is always watching, and He says when the game is done.

I think I’m a little scared of my TBR this month. Between ARCs and the O.W.L.s TBR, I ended up with 12 books to read this month.

One of the books that intimidate me the most is the House of Earth and Blood, it’s a really big book with 803 pages. I’m excited to read it but very, very intimated by its size. Oh well, guess we’ll see how it goes.

Hope you guys are okay. Stay safe. What are you reading this month? Have you read any of these books? Share your thoughts with me in the comments.

Xoxo,

Andie

    1. Red Queen was hard to rate. I enjoyed it but I didn’t quite love it. I want to read the next one and I’m hoping it’ll be better considering what happened in the end of Red Queen.
I’m going to read Madam Temptress this weekend, I’m so excited! I’m so happy you loved it! 🙂

      1. I’ve read some comments that this series isn’t well developed, so I don’t think its was just you. Maybe I’ll like it, I don’t know. I didn’t love the first book so I wouldn’t be shocked if I didn’t love the second one. Let’s see if I keep reading the series after reading it. 😅

    1. Thank you, Jamie! 💛I hope you read Crescent City soon, it’s huuuuuge, I’m 50 pages in. I haven’t read To Kill a Kingdom yet, but I’ve been told a few times that it’s really good, so I’m excited to read it. 😃

    1. I’m kind of scared… It’s too many pages but between ARCs and other books I really, really want to read, I think I might struggle to read it all. Sigh. Let’s see how this goes. I liked YDEO but I didn’t exactly love it and I’m bummed. I hope you like it. 😘💛

  2. I made an April TBR at the beginning of the month, but so far I’ve strayed far from it. I’ve been such a mood reader with everything going on. I’ve only read 3 of the 16 books so far. Oh well! Good luck getting to all of these. Hope you enjoy them. I’ve only read Red Queen. I’m waiting on a hold to come through for Maas’s new book.

    1. Thank you! I’m a mood reader too so sometimes my monthly TBR doesn’t go well but I like to have it planned even if I end up straying. I hope you get Crescent City #1 soon, I’m only 50 pages in… It’s an intimidating book. 😅

  3. This is such a wonderful TBR! To Kill a Kingdom is one of my all-time favorite books, I’m sure you’ll love it. I just finished Crescent City the other night, and I liked it quite a bit. The beginning had a lot of world building, so naturally it was pretty slow, but the plot eventually picked up. I hope you enjoy all of these books!

    1. Thank you! I’m 180 pages in To Kill a Kingdom and I’m loving that world. 💛 I’m 50 pages in Crescent City and there’s so much info dumping… I need to read it when my brain is capable of soaking all of that up. 🤦🏻‍♀️I’m hoping it’ll get better.

      1. I’m glad you’re loving To Kill a Kingdom! 😃 I actually just posted my review for Crescent City on my blog, and info dumping was one of the main things I mentioned. I get that that’s part of world-building but still… so boring. It was worth it though, once I reached the end of the book. The action and intensity were off the charts!
