First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines? If you want to make your own post, feel free to use or edit the banner above, and follow the rules below:
-
Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
-
Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
-
Finally… reveal the book!
FIRST LINES
You already know the story of the American Revolution, and the birth of the American monarchy.
Do you recognize the book?
The book is:
What if America had a royal family?
When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne.
As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America’s first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling.
Nobody cares about the spare except when she’s breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn’t care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her.
And then there’s Samantha’s twin, Prince Jefferson. If he’d been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.
I didn’t recognize it, but I haven’t read this one. I have seen it around a lot, though!

I enjoyed it! The pace is slow but I really liked the POVs and I’m obsessed with Royal romances. 😉

Good to know! I’m guessing you’ve read Emma Chase’s royal romances? I loved those.

Yes, I do! I loved her series and I picked up American Royals because the synopsis totally reminded me of Emma’s books. 😉
