Book description:

For odd-girl-out Zoey Hodge, the best thing about Buckhorn, Kentucky, was leaving it behind. And now she’s back—at least until she can nurse her mother back to health and hightail it out of there anew. But there’s one person she doesn’t mind seeing again. Garrett Hudson was one of the few who was always kind to her. Now he’s a firefighter—still one of the good guys, but with a sexy alpha charm that’s tempting her inner bad girl.In school, Zoey was smart, witty and unafraid to be herself. Garrett fell hard back then, and he’s falling even faster now. As far as he’s concerned, there are all kinds of reasons Zoey should stick around. Her pet grooming business. Her mom. And the chance for him to prove that he can be her real-life hero in every way that matters…

Review [with spoilers]:

The first books I read, written by Lori Foster, were exactly the first two of the Buckhorn Brothers series, I couldn’t help to read the whole series and to fall in love with every single one of her characters, even though Morgan was always my favorite. So, it was no surprise when I totally fell for Garrett too. One of the things I love about Lori Foster is how she totally manages the readers to love the characters she creates, it’s really, really hard not to, despite the fact the book was a little too short. I just wanted more and more!

Zoey’s arrival at the airport was absolutely hilarious, her relationship with Garrett was very steamy, I really liked that Garrett just couldn’t resist her and how sweet they were together. I loved, loved, loved that we got a little bit of Morgan in the book too and I felt hooked with the sparks flying between Amber and Noel.

Just can’t wait for Amber and Noel’s story!

Unexpected Consequences
As a powerful Dallas oil executive, planning is what Lizzie Baron does best. But she certainly didn’t plan on getting pregnant following one memorable night after a rodeo in Fort Worth. Now she needs to figure out how she’s going to raise a baby with a man she barely knows.
Aspiring bronc rider Chris Miller always hoped he’d see Lizzie again, though not quite like this. The pregnancy is a surprise—and so is finding out she’s a member of the powerful Baron clan—but the more Chris gets to know Lizzie, the more he realizes he wants to be with her. When Lizzie learns Chris works for a rival company, she feels betrayed. Can two perfect strangers trust each other enough to become the perfect family?

Review [with spoilers]:

“He was bothered especially by the fact that he should be more upset about it than he was. And yet he wasn’t. Somehow being here tonight, with a pastry box of tiramisu, felt strangely inevitable.”

I loved both Lizzie and Chris. Lizzie is a strong woman that just needs to escape all the pressure of being a Baron and to forget her family’s expectations, especially her dad’s, so she does forget it for one night with… Chris. I have to say I really liked the way the book started with Lizzie taking the pregnancy test, very original, I also liked that Chris thought she was going to tell him she had an STD and he needed to be tested, it felt realistic, I mean if a guy wears a condom, they usually don’t think about a pregnancy even though it is possible, right? Lizzie’s fear about not being a good mother also felt realistic due to what her own mother did and the fact that she couldn’t stop thinking about her mother’s reasons, to behave that way, added more depth to her fear.

The story was well paced and didn’t feel like it was rushed. I enjoyed the way Chris and Lizzie tried to overcome their issues and fears. But I think the main story of what (or who…) the Barons will be facing ahead was given away too soon, it’s totally guessable and that takes away the suspense of it.

Anyway, I recommend this book and I’ll be looking forward to the next one of this miniseries. Go, Barons!

Review [with spoilers]:

This was the first book I read written by Kira Sinclair and I have to say I loved it, so it probably won’t be the last.

First of all, let me just say that, in general, I’m not a fan of the angle of lust or deep feelings for the dead boyfriend/fiancée/husband’s brother. I usually don’t read this books because I always feel it’s very difficult for an author to pull this off. But Kira Sinclair totally did it! So, I’m happy I let my curiosity get the best of me and I can say that the cover played a big part in this (another first!).

The characters were strong and the story was captivating, I couldn’t put my kobo e-reader down after starting it. Jace’s guilty feelings were somewhat understandable but, when the author discloses how his brother died, his intense struggle made perfect sense. The fact that Quinn was being targeted for, basically, helping a woman who had an abusive husband, also felt realistic as well as all the details regarding her job.

There are two reasons why I’m not giving this book 5 stars: 1) the story jumped forward in a few moments that could probably benefit the story if better explored; 2) Quinn’s lack of common sense when she was threatened, I mean the guy was rich, well connected, suspected of being involved in shady businesses and she thought he was harmless? Her reaction just didn’t seem very realistic.

I totally recommend this book to all the readers that love a HEA.

Book description:

Anna Benson is an eager “May” to Zach Ormond’s downright sexy “December.” At age thirty-seven, Zach is a veteran catcher in the last years of his contract, grateful for a no-trade clause that will let him retire a star in Raleigh. Twenty-five-year-old Anna has grown up in the Rockets’ front office; her grandfather has long groomed her to take over the team. When Zach finally realizes Anna is no longer a star-struck kid, their passion flares like a game-winning grand slam. But after a freak accident injures a young phenom and forces the team to land a new player, Anna must sacrifice Zach for the Rockets, convincing him to forfeit his hard-won no-trade guarantee. There’s hell to pay. He’s doing everything in his considerable seductive power to make her keep him-on the team and in her bed. How can Anna and Zach live happily ever after when their romance will destroy the team they love?

Review [with spoilers]:

For a sports lover and a sucker romance like me, this book was PERFECT.

I love baseball so I really enjoyed Anna’s struggle to fix the team’s problems during the season. I also liked the main characters, both Anna and Zach were very solid and there was no unnecessary drama between them. The story was sweet and entertaining. I also totally loved Anna’s grandfather, the way he tried not to swear around her was hilarious, he became one of my favorite character’s right in the beginning of the book.

Unfortunately, and this is the reason why I’m not giving this book 5 stars, the ending seemed a little rushed. It’s not that I couldn’t understand Zach’s decision, he always said it wasn’t about the money and I think that decision showed his deep love for the Rockets, it just felt a little sudden.

Mindy Klasky managed to make me fall in love with the Rockets, so after finishing this review, I’ll buy the first book of this series that I haven’t read yet and I’ll be definitely keeping an eye for her future books.
